Text Box: Genesee 12, Rome 7
Sunday June 14, 2009

Sweet Revenge. Genesee (9-2) knocked out 17 hits and LHP John Pfeiffer improved to 2-0 on the season as the Rebels avenged an early season loss to Rome with a  12-7 victory over the visiting Raidahs Sunday afternoon in Genesee. Pfeiffer allowed just four singles for the second consecutive week, but was surprising erratic after a 1, 2, 3 first that included two strikeouts. Three of the four runs scored on Pfeiffer were on base via a walk. Matt DeMarais cleaned up the final four innings allowing three runs on five base hits. DeMarais picked up the first save of the season for Genesee.
The Rebels offense stayed red hot knocking Raiders starting pitcher Jeff Smith out of the game during a five run seventh inning. Genesee had fourteen hits off the ace. A balanced attack saw every Rebels starter collect a hit with only three not having multi-hit games.
A sacrifice fly by Chris Elliott put the Rebels up 1-0 in the first scoring CF Matt Bauer. Bauer led off the game with a hustle double. 2B Dave Hellman knocked in the second and third runs of the day for the Rebels when he  singled in both the second and fourth innings. Bauer and SS Aaron Dolan followed with RBI singles of their own in the fourth as the Rebs took the lead for good 5-4. Both Hellman and Bauer finished with three hits and two runs scored. Hellman's 3 RBI's led the team.
The Rebel faithful have shown up in droves the last two weeks after waiting out a long road trip and are expected to do the same this weekend when the upstart Dousman Frogs travel to Genesee for a double dip. Game one is set for noon.
